The Dancing Dead Dress

Hello Blogosphere,

My Name is Rachel-Lou and this is the dancing dead dress...

...as modelled by me looking very grumpy! (looking at the picture, I also wish I had straightened my hair, oh well)

I made this dress a couple of weeks ago to go to a friends birthday meal, silly me I started sewing on the same day as the party. I stopped sewing at 7.30, and was supposed to be at the restaurant for 8.10, needless to say I was late (Sorry Ruth!)

The pattern is the lovely Truffle from the Colette Sewing Book, with a few modifications. Due to the type of fabric, and the print I decided that the front .. err.. bit (you know the sweepy bit of fabric that drapes across the front so prettily in the book) would look a bit naff, so hurray one less pattern piece to trace! I also moved the zipper to the size seam and eliminated the back seam as I didnt want to attempt matching the print up.

I cut a straight size 8, but in retrospect I wish I had graded out to a ten in the skirt for some more room in the hips. The only other adjustements were an FBA and I had to take a dart out of the upper back as it dwarfed me.

The dress as modeled by my bathroom door, I love the basic shape of this dress, it's suitable for a miriad of different fabrics and the addition of so many different design details.

The inside, lined in a creamy cotton poplin so it looks nice and neat with no exposed seams. The only trouble with cotton lining is that it sticks to my tights and rides up, as a result I was walking around the park yesterday showing an inappropriate amount of leg..
